Joan E. Beaudoin is an Associate Professor in the School of Information Sciences at Wayne State University. Her research examines the description, access, and interpretation of visual materials, with a focus on digital cultural heritage. Recent projects explore AI-generated image description, online access to museum collections, and the documentation of Detroit street art. She investigates how technology shapes what is visible, discoverable, and valued in digital collections. Beaudoin holds a PhD in Information Studies and an MLIS from Drexel University, an MA in Art History from Temple University, and a BFA in Art History from Massachusetts College of Art.
